To make things a bit more interesting, the main content of this blog will be found here at the Windows 7 Philippines Launch link.
How technology has progressed since I last talked about this 2 years ago.

It’s now day 2 of the Consumer Launch and like the Day 1, A lot of people are in the floor of the Launch.
More Photos are blogged here: I Love My Windows7 - The Philippine Windows7 Consumer Launch – Day 2

PHIWUG gave its part 2 demo’s for the crowd. Chris Misola did a demo on Windows Multi-Touch with his self built device and also on his tablet PC. John D. Delizo (Me) did a demo on User State Migration and also as a collateral demo, Windows XP mode, Virtual PC on Windows7 and how hardware friendly Windows7 was – I run 2 virtual machines (One XP and one Windows7) both just on 512 of RAM each!
PHIWUG is at the Windows7 Consumer Launch! Here are some shots from day 1 at the SM North Cyberzone where the event happend
We also did some demo here.

A couple of days back, I was trying to figure out how in the world am I supposed to keep a group of program shortcuts in one folder and drag it to the Quick Launch toolbar like I used to in Windows XP (sorry, never been a Windows Vista fan). My idiot instinct tells me it's time to fire-up Help and Support which I did with glee knowing I'd get a good answer to my question. Keying "quick launch" in the search field returned two results. One of which, a question that says "What happened to the Quick Launch toolbar?". The way the question was framed gave me a clear picture that the Quick Launch toolbar is but a fragment of history which of course was validated after reading the help information. Read the entire article here.
I recently installed Windows 7 in my Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop. The installation went well and everything seemed perfect until I discovered that there was no audio. I checked the Device Manager and found no errors related to audio and others. My techie instinct tells me I needed to manually install the driver. Since no driver was available for Windows 7 from the Lenovo support website, I took the risk of dowloading the Windows Vista driver instead. After the download, I immediately installed the said driver but to no avail. Instead, Windows 7 loads its own high definition audio driver even when I uninstalled it and rebooted the machine. I searched the Internet for hours hoping I'd find a solution to the problem but become frustrated even more. Click HERE to know how I eventually solved the problem.
Philippine Windows 7 House Party hosted by Jojo Ayson and Chay Saputil with the participation of the Philippine Windows Users Group held at Microsoft Philippines on October 22, 2009. In celebration of the worldwide launch of Windows 7. Another day to remember that more than 200 people, most of them coming from PHIWUG came last October 22, 2009 at Microsoft’s head office at Ayala Makati.

Members of PHIWUG showed off some Windows7 demo on Security, User Experience, Virtualization, Windows Games, Live and many others. One highlight of the event is a demo by Chris Misola, also from PHIWUG. Chris did it again, his very awesome do-it-yourself-multi-touch device, which many could quote one of the coolest thing you may see in a demo.

Isamu Shinozaki did some tips and tricks as a warm-up of demo’s. Jay-R Barrios doing the XP Mode and Elczar Adame featuring IIS7. John Delizo (me) also did some demo on user experience and Adrian Rodriguez on Photo and some Live essentials.

Chris Misola (x-mint of MSFORUMS.PH) now doing his magic on Windows 7 Multi touch!

John Bessey, Microsoft's Philippines new managing director was also present in the event.
Ohh yea, this is really a parteeehhh, Food, beer, TechTalks and Windows 7!

Guys, thank you for attending another Makati TechNet session! DirectAcess is a cool (really coooool!) feature of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 and me including members of the Philippine Windows Users Group were very exited to share and demo this in front of you. I will be posting later our promised links but for now, here are some pictures that were taken in the said event.
Many thanks to Faelmar Tañada for the always and usual support to a PHIWUG event so Bong, thanks alot!
“The Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 operating systems support a new feature called DirectAccess that enables seamless remote access to intranet resources. Unlike traditional virtual private networks (VPNs), which require user intervention to initiate a connection to an intranet, DirectAccess allows any application on the client computer to have complete access to intranet resources while allowing the IT administrator to specify which resources or even client-side applications that are restricted for remote access.”

I can’t seem install MS SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services natively on a Windows Server 2008 R2. Why use it? Primary its free like the SQL Express and it has advanced features like of the full SQL Server 2008 as described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365248.aspx
Cant install, mainly because as of this moment I have not found a downloadable copy of the MS SQL 2008 Express with Advanced Services SP1 from the Microsoft Download site. To install SQL 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2, it must be already on SP1. I think that the only way I can install this is to do a slipstreamed copy.
Slipstream is a way of infusing the installer and its update so that the installer may already have the update in it upon install. This is very handy for mass deployment and for situations like this where it is required to have an SP1 copy to install. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slipstream_(computing)
For the detailed how to go to this link that also has screenshots and explanations on the steps done:
Deploying SQL 2008 Express with Advanced Services SP1 on Windows Server 2008 R2
Here is the short story of the list of things and commands that we did:
Download the FF and copy to C:\ directory for easy access.
SQL 2008 Express with Advanced Services http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=B5D1B8C3-FDA5-4508-B0D0-1311D670E336&displaylang=en
SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=66ab3dbb-bf3e-4f46-9559-ccc6a4f9dc19&displaylang=en
Extract and merge the Installer with SP1 (with command prompt)
en_sql_server_2008_express_with_advanced_services_x64.exe /x:c:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1
SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369-x64-ENU.exe /x:c:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1\PCU
“robocopy c:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1\PCU c:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1 Setup.exe”
“robocopy c:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1\PCU c:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1 Setup.rll”
“robocopy c:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1\PCU\x64 c:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1\x64 /XF Microsoft.SQL.Chainer.PacakgeData.dll”
Create DefaultSetup.ini file at c:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1\x64.
; SQLSERVER2008 Configuration File
[SQLSERVER2008]
PCUSOURCE=”C:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1\PCU”
Run Setup.exe from C:\SQLServer2008_FullSP1\
That’s it!
In case you’re running Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) and notice that at times links seem to not work, or everything seems to run so slow, don’t fret. It may just be that your SSVAgent executable (aka Java Virtual Machine) is misbehaving. Try checking your Task Manager to see if there are multiple processes of it running.
See those rising chunks of processes running? It eats up process time and slows down your system.
To remedy this, either a.) disable SSVAgent in Internet Options like here:
b.) Remove Java entirely. Note: just re-install Java again if you’re using Windows to develop Java applications.
Hope this fix helps

Also on Face Book :D

Again, Thanks to all, to the Participants, Microsoft Philippines, and to all PHIWUG volunteers!

Its a big update yes, raw file says its 577.4 Mb on five languages. If you want to reclaim some disk space after applying the SP2 you can run this update cleanup tool that is included on the SP2 install - compcln.exe
Windows Component Clean Tool (Compcln.exe) can be used to remove the files that are archived after Windows Vista SP2 or Windows Server 2008 SP2 is applied. It also removes the files that were archived after Windows Vista SP1 was applied, if they are found on the system. Running this tool is optional.
NOTE AGAIN: You cannot uninstall Windows Vista SP2 or Windows Server 2008 SP2 after you run this tool on an image.

Here is a complete post with screenshots of Windows Vista SP2 Service Pack Clean-up tool
