Windows 7 Problem Steps Recorder: More than just its name

The Windows 7 Problem Steps Recorder is a useful Windows 7 feature that, according to its name. is useful to record steps to reproduce a problem for handing over to helpdesk folks. But on top of what it was designed to do, Problem Steps Recorded is very useful for someone like me who creates How To documents and takes a lot of time doing screenshots for every wizard window. PSR would now allow me to just run the procedure and forget about performing screenshots.

Here are two examples on installing Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) 5.5. These documents are raw PSR output I opened in Word and saved as a Word document.

TechNet Magazine: Planning your AppCompat Project by Chris Jackson

An application compatibility project is similar to a software development project: cost and time estimates refine over time as you discover what you are facing. I have seen people propose estimates of time and cost based on the number of applications, but the best this system can offer is an average. While the average is often close, almost nobody actually hits it; most organizations are notably better than average, or disappointingly worse.

Combat Flight Simulator 2 Works on Windows 7!

Combat Flight Simulator 2 on Windows 7: Tailing a Japanese Zero fighter over Midway Island.

I've been reunited lately with my old favorite: Combat Flight Simulator 2 WWII Pacific Theater which runs superbly on Windows 7! I tried to install this on Windows Vista but it did not run. Although I have CFS3, nothing beats this version because: (1) it allows for carrier takeoff and landings, (b) the sceneries are closer to home, like Midway Island or even Singapore and (c) one goes head-to-head with the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M2 or commonly known as "Zero" fighter.

So, with Joe Satriani's Crushing Day playing in the background, I am off to the skies of some exotic Pacific island, enjoy the beaches from the air while I play my own version of Top Gun period 1942.
